About Elynyd

My name is Elynyd Benjamin. Don't worry if you can't pronounce that, no one else can either!

I grew up in beautiful rural Nova Scotia. It was there in 2006 that I started my
woodworking journey.

Having no previous experience, I decided to take an evening canoe building course. I figured that while I was doing that, I might as well go to school for the year and take the entry level Carpentry program because it would compliment the canoe building course.

To make a long story short, the canoe course got cancelled, but I committed to the Carpentry program and never looked back!

After moving to western Canada I enrolled in the Fine Woodworking program at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. I can't say enough about the knowledge and skill set I gained through this program. I finished the program in 2012 with a heart that knew it needed to create, and it had to be with wood!

In 2015 while living in Jasper, Alberta, I completed my apprenticeship training to become a Red Seal Carpenter.

I have always had an innate passion to create. From beading to sewing to woodworking, you name it, I've tried it! Those who know me well know I'm always up to something!

I now call the Kootenays in British Columbia home. If I'm not working on my latest project you can find me playing in the mountains, whether on bike or board, and always with my dog at my side :)

... and yes, I still intend to build a canoe!
